How to make an RC boat using a piece of useless rigifoam

Hello and welcome back. In this project, we will learn how to make an RC boat using a piece of useless rigifoam. This project is a great way to reuse materials and create something fun. To power the boat, I’ve used a kv1400 outrunner brushless motor and 40A ESC, which provides efficient and reliable performance on the water. But you can change them as you like. For controlling the boat, I’ve utilized an FS-GT2E transmitter along with an FS-iA6 Receiver. Alternatively, you can also use an FS-i6 transmitter for this project. Other materials are common for the RC boats. Specially, you can buy all the components using our shop easily with the best prices. If you want to make an RC boat with Arduino, please use this link.

OK let’s make this boat step by step. The required components are given below.
- 1400kv Brushless motor x 1 — Our shop / Amazon
- 40A ESC x 1 — Our shop / Amazon
- SG90 Servo motor x 1 — Our shop / Amazon
- 3mm Boat propeller with shaft x 1 — Our shop / Amazon
- 75mm Boat rudder x 1 — Our shop / Amazon
- FS- FT2E Transmitter x 1 — Our shop / Amazon
- FS-iA6 Receiver x 1 — Our shop / Amazon
- Wood sheet — Our shop / Amazon
- 3S Li-po battery — Our shop / Amazon
Step 1
Firstly, identify these components.

Step 2
Secondly, let’s create the boat structure using regifoam. You can customize it as you like.

Step 3
Thirdly, drill holes for mounting the boat rudder on the center of the wood piece. Then, attach the piece of wood to the back of the boat.

Step 4
Now, install the boat propeller with the shaft to the center of the boat. Use the following images for that.

Step 5
Next, install the Brushless motor. For that use a piece of wood. Then, connect the motor shaft to the propeller shaft using the coupling or universal joint. I have used a universal joint.

Step 6
Now, mount the boat rudder on the piece of wood.

Step 7
Afterward, install the servo motor and connect it to the rudder using an iron stick.

Step 8
Now, connect the ESC to the brushless motor. Then install the FS-iA6 receiver next to the motor.

Step 9
After That. connect the brushless motor and servo signal wires to the receiver.
- Servo motor — CH1
- Brushless motor — CH2

Step10
Now let’s bind the transmitter and receiver. For that, follow the instructions below.
- First, connect the binding cable to the receiver. (First port in the receiver)
- Then, connect the battery to the ESC. Now you can see an LED bulb flashing rapidly on the receiver.

- Now, turn on the transmitter by pressing the Bind button. Then, the receiver LED will flash normally. Your binding process is complete.
- Afterward, remove the binding cable and repower your transmitter(In this case, you must fully press the throttle). Now you can control your boat using this transmitter.

Step 11
Finally, install the battery as you like and connect the power. Now you can test your boat on open water. The full video guide is below. So, we hope to see you in the next project. Have a good day.
Troubleshooting
- Check the propeller and motor joints.
- Check the servo and brushless motor signal wires.
- Check the battery voltage.
- Check the boat rudder position.
- Check the transmitter and receiver connection. If not connected, please rebind it.
